Dual Transformation: Digital Technology Empowering Green Growth
The 8th Presidential Hackathon, hosted by MOENV, adopted the theme “Dual Transformation for Green Growth.” Minister Peng Chi-ming emphasized that Taiwan is at a critical juncture in achieving its 2050 net-zero goal, requiring simultaneous focus on both digital and green transformation. The Zha Nan team’s award not only represents technological innovation but also demonstrates the outstanding effectiveness of public-private collaboration in solving social issues.
The Magnificent Transformation of Zha Nan: Giving New Life to Waste Coffee Grounds
Taiwan generates approximately 120,000 metric tons of coffee grounds annually, yet most end up in incinerators or landfills, resulting in resource waste. Addressing this pain point, the Zha Nan team proposed building a “Plant-Based Residue Sustainability Management Platform”:
- Innovative Matching Technology: Integrating convenience store reverse logistics systems with big data technology to solve the high costs of traditional collection
- Data-Driven Management: Integrating coffee ground reporting, logistics recycling, and reuse applications, making transparent data the foundation of trust
- High-Value Upcycling: Transforming waste into high-value products such as textile materials and beauty products, practicing true circular economy.
